welcome mat | rugs | wreath | ribbons
Hello October!
I’ll admit I have slacked off in past years when it comes to front porch decorating. After all, we live at the end of a gated cul-de-sac. No one aside from my four neighbors and the UPS driver is going to see my porch. Not this year though! This year, I’ve got a pumpkin loving 2 year old and you, dear reader (thank you for visiting my blog by the way). That’s motivation enough for me. Here are my top tips and tricks for making your front porch pop.
1. Layer it Up
Layers are key when it comes to fall fashion, and front porches are no different. This is easy to achieve if you’ve got a lot of steps, but since my porch is very wide and one level, I’ve added some straw bales that I found at Michaels to give it more dimension (and increase the surface area in which pumpkins can be placed). Another great way to add layers is to add a rug under your welcome mat. I found these both at Target (linked above). The rug was too small so I got two of them, put them next to each other and put the welcome mat on top.
2. Plants
A little greenery goes a long way, and everything looks better with flowers. I got these potted mums from Home Depot.
3. Add a Festive Wreath
I love decorating for the Holidays, but there are so many of them and I don’t want to swap out my front door wreath every few months let alone find storage for all of them. What to do? Enter the white coffee filter wreath. Perfect for dressing up for any occasion. Just switch out the ribbons and you are good to go! I got this exact ribbon set from Knot and Spool. You can also create your own custom set, but why mess with perfection?
4. Pumpkins. Duh.
You can never have too many pumpkins. I got all of mine from Trader Joe’s and Home Depot. It took about 3 trips…
Bonus Round – Outfit Details
My top and Lulu’s dress are from Dôen. I’m pretty sure these exact pieces have been discontinued as I got them on super sale last year, but the print is called “burgundy songbird toile.” Pants are the DL1961 Patti Jeans (size up if you get these). Boots from Sézane – similar ones here.
Bonus Round – Entryway
This is technically not front porch related, but it’s adjacent so I’m including it. I found this fabulous fall tree on Amazon for my entryway, and I am 100% going to add a bazillion Halloween ornaments to it. Because why wait for Christmas to decorate a lit up tree? The basket is from World Market.

What a great idea with the hay bales!
